Greetings from sunny California. I am sorry I cannot be with you today for this celebration. Zonta International has spent the month of January celebrating the impact of legendary pilot and Zontian Amelia Earhart, and I am pleased to know that District 25 is taking time to honor her spirit.
Congratulations to pilot Nivedita Bhasin for receiving the District 25 Amelia Earhart Spirit Award. At age 26, she became the youngest woman pilot in world civil aviation history to command a commercial jet aircraft. She has accomplished many more firsts in her long career and worked her way up to the executive director and chief of flight safety at Air India Limited. Like Amelia, Nivedita is a pioneer in aerospace and deserves to be celebrated.
The main way we recognize Amelia is through our Amelia Earhart Fellowship, which has helped more than 1,200 women—including myself—pursue advanced degrees in aerospace engineering and space sciences. In honor of Amelia, I invite you to join me in donating to the Amelia Earhart Fellowship Fund. As always, thank you for your dedication and best wishes for a special celebration.
